The DTI Auto guider

edited: June 8 1996 by ejb

The auto guider is run by three different machines at the same time:
Go to the most left screen on the control panel. We work
our way from the top panels downwards
- "SCANCO REMOTE.
 * put the frames at typically 5 for Mv=10
 * put the gain at X2
 * put the black-level at 70
 * put the scan rate at tv. For objects with Mv>12 use slow
 * put the power on on
- Panasonic screen below the SCANCO
  (we refer to this screen at the TV guider monitor)
 * turn power on
 * push the scan size button down (inward)
 * H-hold and V-hold may scroll the screen horizontally or vertically
 * brightness and contrast (never heard of, what could that be ?)
 * the menu on the screen is controlled by the box on the table
   (square with six black buttons).
 * use the "MENU" button to get the menu with in the upper left
   corner "GUID="
 * use the "EXCT" key to turn is into "GUID=ON". If it doesn't
   turn on, don't worry, it might turn itself on during the rest
   of the process.
 * put "TIME CON= 1/2"
 * the other items should be on default.
- "PTI to TELESCOPE INTERFACE"
 * power on
 * output should be on
- "DIGITAL TELEVISION IMAGERY"
 * should be on
- go down (below the table)
 * turn the big switch to "SCANCO DTI"

now go "atlas" and type in "xaguide &"
(note that aguide on OBERON doesn't work anymore)
(a manual can be found on atlas: /usr/local/bin/aguide.hlp)
If you get the error message
"XAguide: DTI is not responding -- aborting" then push
the blue button on "DIGITAL TELEVISION IMAGERY", wait 30 seconds
and type "xaguide &" again. This should solve the problem
 * put "Axis" at "EAST"
 * put "SLIT" at "2"
 * put "GUIDE" at "on" . Sounds pretty logical though
 * put "AUTO TOA" "on"
this should make the auto guider working.
