Observing Support

This site provides access to important information for Mt. Locke observers and support staff.

If you are a new observer, you should read the Computing Overview and relevant online manuals and other observing information for telescopes and instrumentation prior to your arrival at McDonald Observatory.

Observing Support provides technical services for the 2.7m Harlan J. Smith, 2.1m Otto Struve, 0.9m, 0.8m, and ROTSE telescopes, mirrors, instrumentation, electronics, weather stations, computers, networks, and data repositories.

In addition to cleaning and resurfacing mirrors for Mt. Locke telescopes, Observation Support cleans and resurfaces mirror segments for the 9.2m Hobby-Eberly Telescope.
